Orange And Chocolate Marble Cake.

This orange and chocolate marble cake is a family favorite! It has a lovely, fresh orange flavor thanks to the combination of orange zest and juice in the batter. For the chocolate layer, I keep things simple by adding just a little cacao powder.

If you have a Bundt cake pan, use it to give your cake an extra fancy look! Finish with a dusting of powdered sugar, and you’ll have a beautiful cake that’s sure to impress your guests.

Why you should try my recipe

  • Easy to prepare, even for inexperienced bakers.
  • You can leave out the nuts and just stick to the chocolate.
  • Comes out very moist and soft.
  • Makes enough slices for a big family.
  • Freezable if you have any leftovers.

Ingredients & How-to

To make this orange and chocolate marble cake we are going to need all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, olive oil, eggs, vanilla extract, orange, cacao powder.

  • Olive oil: I’m using light olive oil for baking but you could use any vegetable oil of your choice or melted butter.
  • Orange: I’m using the zest from two oranges and one cup of orange juice. Depending on how juicy the oranges are, you might need 2-3 to get one cup of orange juice.
  • Cacao powder: I’m using unsweetened cacao powder to make the chocolate batter for the cake.

For full quantities check the recipe down below.

01. I start by mixing the sugar and eggs until they become creamy for 3-4 minutes. You could use a hand or stand mixer.

02. Next, I add the zest of two oranges and the olive oil to the batter. In a cup, I mix the baking soda with the orange juice using a spoon until it starts to foam. Then, I pour the mixture into the bowl with the rest of the ingredients.

Mixing the eggs and sugar until fluffy. Adding orange zest to the bowl.

03. Next, I add the vanilla extract, flour and baking powder.

04. I mix all the ingredients just until the flour is incorporated.

Added the dry ingredients to the bowl. Batter is ready.

05. I take about one third of the batter and place it into another bowl. I add the cacao powder and mix it until it’s incorporated.

06. Next, I pour half of the orange cake batter into a cake pan or bundt cake pan that has been greased with butter or oil. This will help prevent the cake from sticking and make it easier to remove once baked.

07. Next, pour the chocolate batter over the orange batter and gently spread it out to cover the surface. Add the remaining orange batter on top. If you’d like to create a pretty marble effect, gently swirl the batters together using a skewer or knife.

08. I bake the cake for 40-45 minutes, then leave it to rest for 15-20 minutes before removing from the bundt form.

Mixing the batter with a skewer to create patterns. Cake still in the form after coming out of the oven.

Tips

  • Beat the sugar and eggs until creamy before adding the other ingredients.
  • Don’t overmix the batter after adding the flour.
  • Make sure the oven is fully preheated before placing the cake in.
  • Let the cake cool down before turning the cake form upside down.

Serving suggestions

You can enjoy this orange and chocolate marble cake just as it is, dust it with a little powdered sugar, add a simple glaze, or drizzle some melted chocolate on top for an extra special touch.

It’s perfect for breakfast or an afternoon treat with a cup of coffee. You can also serve it after a meal, either on its own or with a scoop of your favorite ice cream. Delicious any time of day!

Storage

Same as with most cakes, you can store the orange marble cake on the countertop for up to 4-5 days. I like to cover it with a cake lid to keep it soft and moist.

It’s also freezer-friendly for up to 2 months. You can cut it into individual slices and store them in freezer bags with some parchment paper between each slice, making them easy to thaw when needed.

FAQ

Yes, you can use store-bought orange juice. It might not be as aromatic but it will still work.
